UP Journalist Vikram Joshi was shot in head in Ghaziabad, passes away

Journalist Vikram Joshi who was shot in head near his residence breathed his last at a hospital. The doctor monitoring Joshi said that the veins in the head were badly damaged. The incident took place on Monday night near his residence in Ghaziabad in front of his two daughters.

The journalist has filed a complaint against few men for molesting his nice, 17 year old and beat up her brother. It was just after the four days of the complaint that the Journalist has to bear the consequences. Senior Superintendent of Police Kalanidhi Naithani said nine persons have been arrested,— Vijay, Mohit, Dalveer, Aakash, Yogendra, Abhishek Mota, Abhishek, Shakir and the main accused, Ravi and Chotu. Ghaziabad District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey said the chief minister has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the deceased and a job for his wife.
Vikram Joshi was on a scooter with his two daughters in Pratap Vihar , Ghaziabad when a group of men who assaulted shot him .He was taken to Yashoda Hospital and his condition was extremely critical. His family members alleged the police for not investigating the initial complaint.

Police just enquired about the location of the accused and did not investigate further. A letter was sent to SSP office demanding the investigation on July 17 but no actions were taken .Police in their defence said the FIR was registered on June 16 the same day the complaint was brought up. “We are very strict when it comes to crimes against women. The family approached them with a case of molestation. The accused had also filed a counter FIR, alleging they were assaulted by Vikram’s relatives. But the policeman should have acted swiftly since it was a crime against a woman,” said Dr Rakesh Mishra, CO 1st, Ghaziabad.

The whole incident was captured in CCTV footage of a road in Ghaziabad where the incident took place.The group of attackers were seen surrounding the bike and two daughters were seen running in the panic. Vikram Joshi was  seen dragged towards the car . The journalist falls to the ground and the daughters came back running to seek help. The journalist’s nephew named one Kamal-ud-Din and said that they would not accept his uncle's body until the main accused is arrested.

"My heartfelt condolences to the family of Vikram Joshi, a fearless journalist who passed away today. He was shot in UP for filing an FIR to book his niece's molesters. An atmosphere of fear has has been created in the country.

Voices being muzzled. Media not spared. Shocking (sic)," West Bengal Chief Miinister Mamata Banerjee tweeted. Yesterday, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had also criticised the UP government over the attack. "If this is the law and order situation in Ghaziabad, which is in NCR, you can understand how bad the situation is across Uttar Pradesh. A journalist was shot at because he had filed a complaint about his niece being harassed. As the law of jungle prevails, how can an ordinary citizen feel safe?" she had tweeted in Hindi.
