Idduki Govt Engineering College Student Stabbed To Death, CM Condemns, Know What's Happened So Far

Ahead of the student union elections in the Kerala Technological University, a student and member of SFI, Dheeraj Rajendran was stabbed to death. Below are the details of an incident that took place in Idduki Government College, Kerala.

Kerala: On Monday, Dheeraj Rajendran a student of Idukki Government Engineering College and member of the SFI union was stabbed to death. The deceased was inside the Government Engineering College in Painavu when he was allegedly attacked by KSU members. The deceased has been identified as 21-year old Dheeraj Rajendran a native of Athira Nivas in Palakulangara near Taliparamba in Kannur. It is further identified that Dheeraj was an SFI leader in the college.

According to the reports, a clash took place between the SFI and KSU activists, resulting in the stabbing of 3 students. The incident happened around 1 pm on January 10. After the incident, Dheeraj was shifted to medical college here but could not be saved. Along with the deceased, two other students Abhijith and Amal, have also been shifted to the hospital after they were reported critical injuries in the attack.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan condemned the murder of a student and SFI activist Dheeraj Rajendran. In his Facebook post, CM Vijayan writes, "Murder of Dheeraj Rajendran, a student of Govt Engineering College, Idukki & an SFI activist, is extremely sad & condemnable. Attempts to create riots in colleges will not be allowed. Police have been directed to bring Dheeraj's killers before law".

While speaking on the incident, CPM leader MM Achuthanandan said that the stabbing of the SFI activist was pre-meditated. 

In wake of this incident, the Kerala Technology University (KTU) vice-chancellor has urged the college authorities to suspend the student union election.

After the incident, hundreds of students, political leaders including MLAs gathered at the Idukki College Hospital where the body of the student activist was kept. According to media reports, KSU activists are behind the murder. Police have also suspected the KSU members behind the scene and have launched an investigation into the matter.

It is reported that ahead of the student-union elections, there have been some minor issues between both the student organizations. SFI alleged that KSU and its youth congress activists are behind the attack. Police too suspected that it was Nikhil Pali, a KSU activist, who is behind the stabbing.
