Balbir Singh Senior Dies! 3 Times Olympic Gold Medalist Hockey Legend passes away at 95

On Monday, three-time Olympic gold-winning hockey legend Balbir Singh Sr dies. The Hockey legend Balbir Singh at Mohali based Fortis Hospital passes away in Monday morning, Abhijit Singh, Director of Fortis Hospital said. At the age of 95, Hockey Olympian Balbir Singh Sr breathed his last on Monday. He was admitted in Fortis hospital in Mohali and passes away at 6.00 am, said Hospital Director. Balbir Singh Sr is survived by three sons and a daughter.

Balbir Singh Sr died on Monday in Mohali Hospital. He was 95. A former Indian Hockey team captain, Singh was part of teams that won three Olympic gold medals including 1948, 1952 and 1956. The team led by Singh also won silver medal in Asian Games silver in 1958. Balbir Singh Sr. was India's top hockey player and three-time Olympic gold medalist, had recently fallen ill and admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali. Where he was moved on a ventilator. On Monday succumbed to his illness he breathed his last at 6AM today.

Balbir Singh Sr Dies at 95

Balbir Singh was a senior hockey player and was a member of the Indian team that won gold medals in the Olympics in 1948, 1952 and 1956. He was also the captain of the Indian team in the 1956 Olympics. In recognition of his contribution, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 1957. Balbir Singh Sr was the part of Hockey team played and won three Olympics gold medals in Men’s hockey. He played at Centre forward position and was the backbone of the team during his time, said a fan of him. Balbir Singh Sr. was instrumental in helping India win gold medals in London, Helsinki and Melbourne Olympics. He scored five goals in India's 6-1 victory over the Netherlands in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics final and the record is still intact.
