Liger, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday, opened in theatres on Thursday following an extensive national promotional campaign. Vijay's Hindi debut was overly anticipated, but if early box office reports are to be believed, the movie has succumbed to the jinx plaguing the Bollywood box office. The movie debuted to generally unfavorable reviews, sparking meme trends.
As Telugu is Vijay's primary fandom, it is anticipated that the movie will perform well there. The movie, however, has been promoted as a pan-Indian release and must perform well, particularly in the North. The Hindi box office results are rather disappointing because Liger's producers made numerous city trips to generate buzz about the movie. Still, such efforts did not seem to have any effect on the numbers.
Now, makers are pinning all their hopes on OTT to recover costs. Liger OTT release date, TV rights, platform, digital rights, & everything else you need to know has been given here.
Disney+ Hotstar has purchased the digital streaming rights. Several reports claim that Disney Plus Hotstar is Liger's exclusive OTT streaming partner. Liger is a Puri Jagannadh-directed film. According to reports, the movie was purchased for digital distribution at an exorbitant cost that has not yet been revealed.
But one can easily picture the amount Liger would have commanded for its OTT distribution given claims that the film's lead actor Vijay Deverakonda received a salary of upwards of ₹25 crores.
Liger TV Rights: The movie's satellite rights have been purchased by Star India Network.
Usually, it takes up to 2 months for a movie to have its OTT release after its theatrical premiere. In the case of Liger, however, it's unlikely the makers will wait for so long. The movie is expected to be removed from the theatres within 2 weeks due to poor occupancy. We can expect the movie to hit the OTT stage by September end or at the beginning of October.
