According to sources, A total of 8 bodies have been recovered from the Tapovan tunnel. In addition to this, Twelve bodies were pulled out from the flash flood-hit areas of Uttarakhand's Chamoli district yesterday taking the death count in the calamity to 53, as rescue teams battled against odds to save those trapped in a choked tunnel in Tapovan for a week now.
"A total of 8 bodies have been recovered from Tapovan tunnel so far. Operation is still underway, we are working 24/7. 7 bodies have been recovered in Raini, so a total of 15 bodies have been recovered from the two work sites", said Aditya Pratap Singh, Deputy Commandant, NDRF.

In addition to this, DGP Uttarakhand, Ashok Kumar, said "3 bodies found from Tapovan tunnel today, taking body count there to 8 so far. No new recovery from Raini village today. As per postmortem, the people found dead, died during the glacier mishap itself. Rescue operation to continue for next 3-4 days".
After A portion of the dam of the power project on the Rishiganga river in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand broke on 7th Feb causing a flood in the nearby area, people were reportedly trapped in many areas. Ever since the incident took place, ITBP, IAF, SDRF & NDRF teams have been constantly carrying out operations to rescue people trapped in flood-affected regions.
