As per recent reports, a portion of the dam of the power project on the Rishiganga river in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand has broken. This has increased the flow in the Alaknanda River. On information, the district administration, the police team, and ITBP(Indo-Tibetan Border Police} have rushed to the spot. An alert has been sounded in the plains including Rishikesh, Haridwar after the incident.

Dam flow has unexpectedly increased the flow of the Alaknanda River. No loss of life or property is reported yet, but the administration is on alert mode. Explain that the private company has a power project on the Rishiganga River on the policy route beyond Joshimath, where about 24 MW of electricity is produced.

Uttarakhand Latest Update:

Three bodies have been recovered at the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited site in the Tapovan area of Chamoli in Uttarakhand, says ITBP. Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar said, "16 people who were trapped in Tapovan Dam are being shifted to safer places by Police".

According to Army sources, Four Army columns, two Medical teams, and one Engineering Task Force have been deployed at Reni village in the Tapovan area of Chamoli, Uttarakhand. Army helicopters are on the aerial recce. As per Indian Air Force sources, C-130 and An32 aircraft are being used to airlift NDRF personnel to Uttarakhand immediately.

It is being told that a part of the glacier broke from the hill and fell on this dam. Due to this, a part of the dam is damaged due to which the water of the dam is rapidly going into the Alaknanda River. The Central Water Commission has issued an alert at all its posts as the flow of the Alaknanda River increases. The arrival of this water in Rishikesh and Haridwar is estimated within 6 to 7 hours.

The dam was damaged by a glacier burst, causing flooding in the Dholi River. The Tapovan Barrage is completely demolished. Many people have been reported missing since the incident. An alert has been sounded due to the increasing danger from Chamoli to Haridwar. Police, SDRF and ITBP teams have started evacuating the riverbank along with loudspeakers. Boat rafting operators are also being removed from the Ganges river in Rishikesh.

Taking the matter seriously, the lake water is being reduced to the Srinagar Hydropower Project so that there is no problem in releasing excess water when the water level of Alaknanda rises. The Srinagar police have appealed to the people living in the settlements along the river to move to safer places. Also, laborers working in the river have also been removed.

According to the district Prashan of Chamoli, a lot of damage is being reported due to the glacier burst. Police, SDRF, and ITBP teams have rushed to the spot to carry out rescue operations. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat is taking information from the Secretary Disaster Management and DM Chamoli at the moment. The Chief Minister can call an emergency meeting of all the officials of Chamoli district along with making an aerial survey of the incident.
