Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday lays the foundation stone of AIIMS Rajkot via video conferencing. Participating virtually, Prime Minister said that 'Swasthya hi sampada hai', the year 2020 has taught us this well. It has been a year full of challenges. India has emerged as the nerve center of global health. In the year 2021, we have to strengthen India's role in healthcare.

This is the last day of the year to remember India's millions of doctors, health warriors, sanitation workers, and other front line Corona Warriors. Today I salute the colleagues who have given their lives on the duty, said PM Modi laying the foundation stone of AIIMS Rajkot.

The number of new cases of COVID19 infection in the country are decreasing now. We are preparing to run the world's largest vaccination program in the next year. Today, India has potential as well as a feeling of serving mankind. India has turned into the nerve-centre of global health, he adds during the live interaction.

"India has proven its ability to adapt, evolve and expand according to demand. We moved ahead with the world, added value in collective efforts and served humanity above everything else", Prime Minister added.

The highlights of the Prime Minister's live interaction are as follows-

Jan Ausadhi Kendras are also a friend of poor people during illness. Over 7,000 such Kendras all over the country provide 90% cheaper medicines to people. Over 3.5 lakh poor patients use these Kendras on a daily basis.

Work on 10 new AIIMS has been done in the last 6 years. Many of which have started work today. Along with AIIMS, work is also being done on Super Spacial Hospitals like 20 AIIMS in the country, PM Modi said.

Even after so many decades of independence, only 6 AIIMS were able to be built. In 2003, the government of Atal ji took steps to create 6 new AIIMS. 2012 was made by making them, i.e. it took 9 years.

Gujarat's success in the medical sector is behind 2 decades of relentless efforts, dedication and determination. In the last 6 years, Gujarat is also getting the definite benefit of the scale on which work has been done for treatment and medical education. The kind of medical infrastructure that has been developed in Gujarat in the last two decades is a big reason that Gujarat is better able to deal with the challenge of Corona. AIIMS Rajkot will further strengthen, strengthen Gujarat's health network.
