Covishield vaccine to curb coronavirus is being manufactured by the Serum Institute in India. Sources said the production of Covishiled was not being carried out at the SII building where a major fire broke out on Thursday.
"The fire broke out at the Manjri plant. Production wasn't done there but the preparation was on to begin at a later stage. Fire fighting operation is on, the building has been vacated but we're re-checking. Fire will be doused in an hour, No problem at vaccine plant/storage" stated Pune Police Commissioner
The building is closer to the plant where the actual production of the vaccine was about to start in a few days. Covishield has been developed by Oxford University and British-Swedish company AstraZeneca and manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.
