Doordarshan becomes most Watched Channel after Ramayana & Mahabharata, Shaktimaan also gains Popularity

Ramayana which is a popular TV series of the Ramanand Sagar has become the most-watched Hindi Serial during Lockdown. During Lockdown most of the people are at home. All the people are playing the indoor game, watching indoor TV serials like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Shaktimaan, Buniyad. The decision to re-telecast old shows like 'Ramayana', 'Mahabharata' and Shaktimaan on Doordarshan during lockdown has proved to be a super hit. The BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) on Thursday reported that Doordarshan has become the most-watched channel across India last week (28 March to 3 April) due to its re-telecast of these old shows. This BARC report has stated that Doordarshan has jumped a lot due to these shows and has increased 40,000% in morning and evening viewership.

Based on the mythological religious legends of the country, along with 'Ramayana', DD National has once again brought all the classic shows like 'Mahabharata', 'Shaktimaan', 'Buniyaad', and the lockdown of this three weeks. People have lavished love on these old serials too. Most of these shows were made when only Doordarshan was in the name of the channel across the country. The report of the BARC tops 'Ramayana' and 'Mahabharata'. Apart from this, other shows are also doing well.

Overall TV viewership saw a jump of 4% this week, The return of classics has made Doordarshan (DD) the most-watched channel in Indian. In the last two weeks when the Ramanand Sagar show, originally a favorite from the 1980s, has been telecast on DD, its slot viewership--9 am and 9 pm--has grown 60 times. The other Hindu epic, the Mahabharat--12 pm and 7 pm--has helped the viewership surge by 208 times.


Ramayana & Mahabharata, Shaktimaan also gains Popularity

On 5 April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the people of the country to keep all the switches of the house off for 9 minutes at 9 pm and hence this time segment has the lowest viewership since 2015. Apart from this, the decision to show its classics shows for South Based Channel was also a hit and there was a tremendous jump in its viewership. Apart from this, viewership of some other Hindi entertainment channels on which old shows were being shown has also seen a good boom. 

As per recent decision on almost the same schedule, as it was earlier in the afternoon, Mukesh Khanna starrer Shaktimaan telecast time is in the Second hour of the Afternoon. Shaktimaan to be aired from April 1, 2020, at 1 PM daily and Shreeman and Shreemati from 2-3 PM daily. Ramayana the other serial is being telecasted at 9 am in the morning and 9 pm in the late evening daily at DD National. The schedule of Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s Chanakya is to be decided in the 1st Week of April, as a particular telecast date is yet to be decided.

Ramayana- Daily twice at 9 Am and 9 Pm at DD National
Mahabharata- Daily at 12PM at DD National (from 1 April)
Shaktimaan- Daily at 1 PM at DD National (from 1 April)
Shreeman- Shreemati- 2 pm at DD National (from 1 April)
Chanakya- at DD Bharti (from 1st week of April)
