As per recent reports, the Defense Ministry of India & Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) have signed a contract for procurement of Software Defined Radio Tactical (SDR-Tac) worth over Rs 1,000 crore in New Delhi today.
The demand for such radio systems was pending for a very long time as the Indian military needed these secure radio systems for better communications and safety from cyber & electronic attacks by the enemy.

Chinese PLASSF (Peoples' Liberation Army Strategic Support Force) has the ability to jam radio communications and disrupt the flow of sensitive information which is required during military operations.
Software-defined radio (SDR), is a radio communication system where components that have been traditionally implemented in hardware (e.g. mixers, filters, amplifiers, modulators, demodulators, detectors, etc.) are instead implemented by means of software on a personal computer or embedded system. Software Defined Radio Tactical are radio systems that provide flexible and interoperable communications.
