UGC Guidelines on University Exams: University Grants Commission (UGC) is set to release new guidelines for University examinations and academic activities. Likely on Wednesday UGC may release new guidelines for holding remaining exams for Final Year/ Semester courses. It is also expected that after receiving detailed report from Committee, UGC shall also issue guidelines for new academic session and resuming of academic activities including offline classes. However, UGC in its earlier notice has suggested all state and Central Universities/ Institutes to promote students on Internal exams & last semester/ year performance basis. Commission also directed Institutes to facilitate Online education with linking available courses with Online educational courses. Setup of Grievance Cell to address students' quarries/ grievances, UGC had directed Institutions to directly engage with students amid ongoing Corona Virus pandemic.
A different set of new guidelines is expected to be out today, as UGC along with officials from MHRD, has interacted with Ministry of Home Affairs over the current situation. According to sources, UGC has held discussion on holding of University examinations, entrance tests for new academic session with Ministry of Human Resource and Development.
University Exams & Entrance Tests- Reviewing the situation, UGC has suggested Higher Educational Institutions to promote first and second year students without holding examinations. For final year/ semester new structures are suggested by Committee. As per suggestions provided UGC may allow Universities to conduct examinations Online/ in Open Book Exam format or Assignment Based structure for only final semester/ year students. However, the final guidelines on final semester/ year exams are yet to be announced by UGC.
Should Read-No Exam in July Month, New Guidelines Today
Several State Governments on their behalf have taken decision to scrapping examinations and some Universities have postponed the June-July schedduled exams to unspecified dates. In states like Maharashtra, Nagaland, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal the lockdown restrictions have been increased till 31 July. In such a situation, now it has become more difficult to conduct examinations in the next couple of weeks.
It is expected that University Grant Commission may outline all important decisions on holding University examination for final semester. Beginning of new academic session and instructions for offline/ online examinations.
Based on sources a few days ago, the Education Minister had asked the UGC to review the earlier proposed guidelines for conducting University examinations and academic session from Sept month. Parents and teachers have been raising demands to cancel the University examinations, as Coronavirus infected cases are on surge in different parts of country. University Grant Commission earlier in its May released guidelines, had asked Universities to hold examinations only for final semester/ year students. Students of First and Second years should have been promoted to the next semester/ years on the basis of internal exams & previous semester performances.
