Pondicherry University Examination Wing has released a notice in respect to conduct Open Book Examinations (OBE) for the End Semester Examinations for affiliated Colleges. Pondicherry University to conduct OBE exams for final year/ semester (Term End) students likely in the month of Sept-Oct 2020. Earlier University Grant Commission (UGC) directed all state & central Universities to hold final year / term end examinations by the Sept end. Several state & central Universities conducted the term end final year examinations whereas, a few states approached Supreme Court against the UGC circular on conducting final year exams, which later ruled-over by the Apex Court.
In order to ensure fair and equal opportunity for students appearing in online/ offline/ blended mode, it has been decided to conduct end semester examinations under the "Open Book Examination", says Pondicherry University. University to conduct OBE exams only for the final year or term end courses (Final Year/ Semester) following the UGC guidelines issued in the monf of April 2020.

Students are allowed to refer books/ notes and other study materials to answer the questions; answers should reflect their understanding of the concept not verbatim copying from sources, says Pondicherry University.
Students are also issued the OBE examination structure and pattern, through the newly released Term End Examination notice. All other conditions like duration of examinations; pattern of question papers to remain same. Students appearing in the Pondicherry University OBE exams should answer in A4 white sheets with black ink. The scanned papers are to be sent to the respective colleges within 30 minutes after the scheduled time of examinations. All pages written are to be scanned and saved sequentially in a single file (PDF format). "Students should write their registration number, subject, course, date and full signature on the first page and answers should start from the second page", notice reads.
