A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in Supreme Court against upcoming CA exams in July. According to the media sources 987 students from 20 states and 3 UTs have approached top court seeking relief. PIL seeks several relief for the students including facilitating 'Opt-out scheme' for those students who can not sit for the exams due to COVID-19 or other restrictions imposed by respective authorities.
Students also launched a digital campaign demanding the postponement of CA exams amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Citing the covid risk several students have come in support of the petition challenging a recent notice from ICAI holding exams from 5 July.
ICAI on the other hand has scheduled to conduct the Final and Intermediate examination in July 2021. Releasing an official notice, Institute on Monday notified that it would be conducting the CA Foundation exams from July 24, whereas, examination for Final and Intermediate (Old & New course) from
PIL seeks quashing of ICAI notification for CA Exams of May 2020 cycle without "opt-out" option. PIL seeks "opt out" option from ICAI as it provided last year for November session exams. In its litigation, Advocate Anubha Srivastava said that ICAI should provide opt-out option for those willing students before & during the exam.

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) had enabled "Opt-Out scheme" for the students who could not sit for the exams held in November. Opt-out students were provided opportunity to sit for the CA exams in January 2021.
