Changes in IIT & NIT admission process 2020-21, 75% in Board exams not necessary

In view of Class 12th results being prepared by CBSE & other state boards, IIT admissions committee has proposed changes in admission structure for session 2020-21. A committee has taken final decision on IIT & NITs admission process for session 2020-21. Committee recommending the changes says 75% marks in Board exams are not necessary for admission session 2020-21. Based on report prepared by Committee for academic session 2020-21 admission process for UG courses in IITs and NITs will be different to previous sessions as the criteria of obtaining 75% marks in board exams, has been called-off.

Admissions into Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and National Institute of Technology for current session are yet to start as several Boards are processing Class 12 / Sr Secondary results. Changes are made in IITs & NITs admission process for current session 2020-21, an IIT senior officer said.

After the meeting now it has approved that admissions into IITs to be provided on the basis of passing of JEE Advanced and Board examinations. Obtaining 75% marks in Board examinations, is scrapped. The reason behind the expected change, is explained as different decisions taken by state and central boards in preparation of Class 12th result.

According to current structure the admissions in IITs in Under Graduate courses are being done on the basis of JEE Advanced and 75% marks in board exams or inclusion in top 20 percentile of particular board. Now the percentile barrier in Class 12 exams has been called-off for admissions 2020-21 The reason behind the decision is cited that several state boards have decided to declare result on the basis of assessment and others are on paper performances.
