Epic show Ramayana is gathering popularity and dominating the television industry by turning to no. 1 position constantly for many weeks. As per the popular demand of public Doordharshan has started this television series during lockdown. Most apprehensions about the Ramayana went wrong as it gained unexpected popularity all over again, Ramayana has broken a decade’s record in T.R.P. when Ramananda Sagar’s Ramayana was originally on air in 1987, the co-stars were treated as god by the public due to the originality in performance. Arun govil as RAM and Dipika Chikhlia as SITA gained enormous popularity.
Public always loved and treated them as Ram and Sita not as actors. Also per episode cost was 9 lakh for Ramayana whereas it generated 23 crore to Doordarshan similarly even these day Ramayana has revived Doordharshan again.
B.R Chopra’s Mahabharata is leading the television industry at second position. It is broadcasted on D.D Bharti and D.D Retro simultaneously. Mahabharata was first telecasted in 1988 and 9 core was total production cost. However the popularity it gained was incomparable with shows.
It somehow proves that Mahabharata and Ramayana series were indeed milestone in Indian Television from 80s to 2020 thus, turnout to be ageless content for each generation. It can be said that during lockdown people like to appreciate and adore the epic and mythological content that was part of 80s and 90s kid’s memory probably they try to find their childhood and harness same values to this generation.
