Recently, Bollywood has been constantly making remakes of hit South Indian films like Drishyam, Jersey, Kabir Singh, & much more.
Some people have said that Bollywood has now become 'Copywood'. Whether Bollywood is Copywood or not, there is no denying that Bollywood has got multiple projects lined up that are the remakes of hit South Indian films. Here's the list of upcoming Bollywood remakes of South Indian movies-
Original Film: Vikram Vedha (2017) - Tamil
Vikram Vedha is a superhit Tamil film starring Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi and is based on the Indian folktale Baital Pachisi. The original film's directors, Pushkar–Gayathri, stated in 2018 that they will helm the Bollywood remake of the same name. Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan have been cast in the film, and the first look of the upcoming film has sparked a lot of interest.
Original Film: Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020)- Telugu
In 2020, the Telugu film starring Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde was a superhit family comedy and one of the highest-grossing Telugu films. It is planned to be remade in Hindi and will star Kartik Aryan and Kriti Sanon, with Rohit Dhawan directing. It will be released in November of this year.
Original Film: Kaithi (2019)
The 1976 film Assault On Precinct 13 inspired the Tamil film Kaithi, starring Karthik Sivakumar. Kaithi will now be converted into Hindi, with Ajay Devgn and Tabu playing the key roles. The story follows an ex-convict who is trying to reunite with his daughter.
Original Film: Driving Licence (2019) - Malayalam
This 2019 comedy-drama starring Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu is slated to get an official Hindi version starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, titled Selfie. The film is currently being shot and will be directed by Raj Mehta. Emraan Hashmi's return to the big screen after a long absence will be intriguing.
Original Film: The Great Indian Kitchen (2021) - Malayalam
The original Malayalam film was about a married woman who strives to fit into society's preconceived notions of what a wife should be. The film gained critical acclaim as well as widespread public support, and it is now being remade in Bollywood. Sanya Malhotra will star in the film, which will be produced by Harman Baweja and Vicky Bahri.
Original Film: Anniyan (2005) - Tamil
The same filmmaker, Shankar, will adapt the 2005 smash-hit Anniyan, which was remade in Hindi and titled Aparichit. Ranveer Singh will portray three roles in this psychological thriller, one of which was initially performed by Vikram. The project is currently nameless, but it is scheduled to break ground soon.
Original Film: Helen (2019) - Malayali
Helen was a Malayali survival thriller centered on a suburban girl who mysteriously vanishes. Anna Ben played the eponymous character. It is going to be remade in Hindi, starring Janhvi Kapoor, Manoj Pahwa, and Sunny Kaushal, following a Tamil adaptation.
Original Film: HIT The First Case (2020) - Telugu
'HIT' (Homicide Intervention Team), a 2020s investigative drama starring Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra, is being adapted in Hindi and is now in production.
Original Film: Master (2020) - Tamil
During the Pandemic, this film broke various records. The action film from 2020 starring Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi will be remade in Hindi, and according to sources, Salman Khan will play the title character.
