MODI Government bans 59 Chinese apps after intelligence declares them unsafe. On Monday the GoI takes the decision to ban 59 Chinese apps including video sharing app TikTok. The Galwan valley clash consequences have now gone online as Modi Government blocked 59 Chinese Apps today. The said list includes popular apps like TikTok, Shein, Club Factory, ROMWE, Helo, and ShareIt amongst others. The list includes browsers like UC Browser and APUS Browser as well.

Earlier this month the intelligence had advised the Government to issue advisory against the use of or straight up ban these apps as they ‘engaged in activities which are prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order’ as quoted by Indo-Pacific News.

According to intelligence, these apps had the potential to be used as spyware and was harmful to cybersecurity. Such safety concerns about Chinese software have been raised by western countries too in the past.

These apps earned both China and India a large amount of revenue and the decision will hence impact both countries’ economies adversely. The Ministry of IT press release further said that Ministry has received "many representations raising concerns from citizens regarding security of data and risk to privacy relating to operation of certain apps".
