Centre to send 20 extra CAPF companies to Maharashtra after state raises request

Maharashtra's government urges the ministry of home affairs to send 20 companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) to give respite to the officials working day and night amid the lockdown and to ensure normalcy in the state. In response to the state's request, the ministry of home Affairs has agreed to provide an additional 20 companies of CAPF. Many Maharashtra police personnel have tested positive for Covid-19 and need time to rest and recuperate. May 25th is Ramzan Eid when we'll need augmented security presence to ensure law and order is not disturbed. We've hence asked for 20 CAPF companies to be deployed urgently to help the police, said the state home Minister Anil Deshmukh.

Center to send Extra CAPF Companies to Maharashtra

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of cases of coronavirus and is considered to be the epicentre of the disease. The state police is working relentlessly to ensure the lockdown's rules are being followed. The police has been working day and night in challenging conditions to contain the spread of the virus.

In Maharashtra state total 32 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force are already deployed in the state and working for the welfare of the citizens. In State several Police personnel are also suffering from Covid-19 and are exhausted due to which the CM Uddhav Thackarey asked for the 20 companies of CAPF to be deployed in the state.

The Corona pandemic and resultant lockdown have seen the police force stretched as they work in extremely challenging conditions for long hours both day and night. Ramzan Eid is also around the corner. We do not want the police to be any more overburdened than they are,” Deshmukh was quoted as saying in an official statement.
