Hon'ble Supreme Court of India has rejected the writ petition seeking deferment of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 examination. A bench led by Justices AM Khanwilkar, Hrishikesh Roy, and CT Ravikumar said that for the convenience of some students, the exam can not be postponed. Further, it said that those who are appearing in multiple exams said if students want to appear in multiple exams, then they need to prioritize and make a choice as there may never be a situation where everyone is satisfied with the date of the exam.

According to the media reports, over 16 lakh candidates have applied for the examination and are scheduled to appear in the NEET exam to be held on September 12, 2021. Citing the clash between the NEET examination and other state-level entrance tests that fall around the exam date, several students approached the apex court demanding a deferment of the examination.

On Monday, the bench said that the deferment of examination may affect another course of the examination. "It will be very unfair to reschedule the examination. As it is not a state-level examination, it is a national-level entrance test".

About NEET UG 2021: The nationwide undergraduate examination is conducted for admission to medical and dental courses. Students had petitioned the court to defer the entrance test as it clashes with the dates of other competitive exams. Last year the NEET 2020 exam was conducted on September 13 following the strict precautions in view of the COVID pandemic.
