In Kolkata, the total planning area in West Bengal now stands at 33, while in the neighboring South 24 Parganas and North Parganas districts of West Bengal, according to official figures, there are 155 and 219 such areas respectively. The Kolkata government has decided to tighten lockout in regulated areas. This lockdown will be implemented from 5 pm on 9 July. More than 1,000 areas across the state will come under stringent restrictions from tomorrow.

The highest number of deaths in the last 24 hours was in Kolkata and North 24 Parganas. Eight people have died of corona in each of the two districts. Of the 21 dead, 19 were from South Bengal. Only two people have died in North Bengal. Sunday's bulletin says 72 people have been infected in Hooghly in the past 24 hours. Two Burdwan infected four. Three people have been caught in East Burdwan and one in West Burdwan in the last 24 hours. West Bengal has reported a total of 23,837 cases till Wednesday and the contagion has claimed the lives of 804. people.
