ZEE5 original Pakistani-Web Series 'Dhoop ki Deewar' written by Umera Ahmad and directed by Haseeb Hassan starring Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly in lead roles is now available for streaming online. Check out our In-depth  Dhoop Ki Deewar review focusing on key aspects of the show.

Dhoop Ki Deewar Review:

Story: The first episode revolves around an Indo-Pak cricket match, which has created a lot of hype both in Amritsar (where Vishal's family lives) and Lahore (Sara's residence). However, 17 minutes into the episode and both families are shattered as real tragedy hits their respective lives. Both Sara and Vishal lose their fathers to an Indo-Pak border skirmish.

Dhoop ki Deewar Sheds Light On Reality: After the death of both of their (Sara & Vishal) fathers, the media approaches both of them to invoke jingoism among the masses. Both Sara and Vishal give interviews praising their fathers and their valor. Things get escalated when the two publicly provoke each other through social media, further feeding into the political conflict between the two neighboring countries. In reality, nobody is bothered by the death of these soldiers, except for immediate loved ones.

Makers highlight the consequences of the war:

The main focus of the show is to discourage the idea of war as it emphasizes the aftermath of the war. Indo-Pak conflict has taken millions of lives since its inception in 1947 and to this date, both countries have not reconciled with each other. Further 'Dhoop Ki Deewar' shows how families of soldiers suffer after they lose their loved ones.

The majority of the actors might be unfamiliar to Indian viewers, however, their performances make viewers instantly relate to them. Sajal Aly along with Ahad Raza Mir has done a commendable job in portraying their characters.

Brave Attempt At Promoting Peace And Cultural Connectivity:

Focusing on a highly sensitive topic, the show is brave in its attempt. Indians are shown praising Pakistani dramas and Pakistanis watching Indian TV serials shows how inter-connected the neighboring countries are.

The use of Nawab and Gopi, the two house helps, who are basically counterparts of each other, is unique and clever. Parallel match cuts of the two households and characters keep viewers engaged in the series.

Dhoop ki Deewar review conclusion- The show does good of portraying the current conflict between India and Pakistan through the eyes of common citizens and it also shows the reality of media houses that deliberately up the ante just for TRP. Showing how culturally connected both nations are, and how border conflict affects the lives of soldiers' families is another plus point.  However, one area where perhaps the show lacks is pacing, however, it has only been 2 episodes and it is expected that show will catch pace eventually.
