The much-anticipated and long-awaited Tollywood action drama Acharya finally opened theatres on Friday; scroll down to learn about screen counts, early reviews, bookings, and Acharya box office collection day 1.
Acharya is a Telugu film directed by Koratala Siva and starring Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi, Pooja Hegde, Jisshu Sengupta, and Vennela Kishore. Actor Sonu Sood is said to have played a negative role in the action film.
Critics panned the plot, narrative, visual effects, weak background music, and the characterization of the cast, but appreciated the songs, particularly the Banjara song sung by Shankar Mahadevan and Rahul, as well as Ram Charan's performance.
The first half of the film is described as tedious and dull, while the second half is described as decent, with Regina Cassandra's item number, the climax, and Ram Charan's performance as the film's soul. Koratala Shiva's directorial was widely lambasted by critics, with some even claiming that Acharya is his worst picture to yet.
However, the action film has been released in over 1150 theatres in India, with most Nizam and nearby areas having 600+ theatres, Andhra having over 500 theatres, and overseas having 650+ theatres, bringing the total theatre count to over 2000. In the rest of India, the film has been released in 200+ theatres.
Fans, on the other hand, appear to be extremely enthusiastic about the film; according to advance bookings, half of the shows have already sold out, and the remaining shows are rapidly filling, and it appears that this trend will continue until Sunday in the home market, given the stars' widespread fan base. Further unfavourable publicity could be detrimental to the film industry.
