Following the news, the film's producer, Suriya's 2D Entertainment faces anger from the Association of Theater Owners and Multiplex. R Paneer Selvam, the association's secretary-general, released a video opposing 2D Entertainment's decision not to release Ponmagal Vandhal in theaters.
He said: Seeing the news reports about the launch of Ponmagal Vandhal on digital platforms shocked the Association of Theater and Multi Owners. It is painful to know that the film will not be released in theaters. We have a rule that movies that are made for big screens should be released in theaters first followed by a digital release. We condemn the producer who has decided to sell the broadcasting rights. We contacted Suriya and asked him not to release the movie on OTT platforms, but it fell on deaf ears So, we have decided not to release any films that involve Suriya or her production house.
Jyotika will be seen playing the role of a lawyer in Ponmagal Vandhal. Featuring music by Govind Vasantha, the film will feature K Bhagyaraj, R Parthiepan, Pratap Pothen, and Pandirarajan in crucial roles.
