UP 69,000 Assistant Teacher Recruitment: All you need to know about today's Supreme Court decision

The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday allows Uttar Pradesh state government to fill-up the 69000 Assistant Teacher vacancy, as per the result declared in May 2020. The Apex court dismissing the appeals filed by Shiksha Mitra Association (UPSMA) challenging the Allahabad High Court decision to uphold the cut-off marks, asks Basic Education Department to consult Election Commission for the dispersal of Appointment Letters to the selected candidates. SC also asks state government to give another chance to Siksha Mitras who failed in the test.

Court asks Basic Education Board to fill the remaining 37,000 Shikha Mitra posts in terms of the results of the recruitment exam 2019, announced in the month of May 2020. The 37,000 posts were kept vacant out of total 69,000 after an order that had stayed the selection process.

On January 7, 2019, the Uttar Pradesh government via a notification decided to increase the minimum cut-off marks to 65 and 60 percentile, for the General and Reserved categories respectively. Following which the candidates moved to the Allahabad High Court and then Supreme Court. The differ in Cut-off marks led nearly 32,629 Shiksha Mitra disqualify for the exam. The notification on increasing of the cut off percentile was issued a day after the examination to fill up 69,000 Assistant Teachers posts. The Shiksha Mitras had challenged the Allahabad High Court’s decision wherein the State's decision to keep higher cut-off marks for the recruitment of 69,000 teachers in primary schools was upheld, says Timesnow.

According to the TOI, Apex Court on Wednesday, said that the state government’s submission has been recorded and that 'Shiksha Mitra' who has been unable to crack the test (69,000 Assistant Teacher recruitment examination), would be given another chance to compete in the next selection. On Appointment Letters: Instructions have been issued to the Basic Education department to take permission from the Election Commission to distribute appointment letters to the selected candidates. This hints-out of the early distribution of the Appointment letters to the selected candidates.
