Supreme Court dismisses plea filed on postpone of NEET & JEE exams

Supreme Court of India on Monday dismissed a petition seeking the postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) 2020. A three-judges bench led by Arun Mishra dismissed the plea filed by students to postpone Sept NEE & JEE exams. After the Supreme Court's dismissal of the plea challenging postpone of September 2020 scheduled JEE and NEET exams, the way becomes clear for the competitive exams. National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct NEET UG & JEE Main examinations in September 2020 on scheduled dates.

Earlier students reached to the Supreme Court and filed petitions to postpone September 2020 scheduled JEE Main and NEET examinations over risk of Covid-19. HRD Minister has clarified that postponement of competitive Engineering and Medical exams, is not a solution.

As per report published by HT, on Monday, a 3 judge bench of Supreme Court headed by Justice Arun Mishra said that “life has to go on” despite Corona virus and the court cannot put career of students in peril by interfering with the decision of the National Testing Agency (NTA). 

“Career of students cannot be put in peril. We find no merit in the petition (Students petition to postpone NEE & JEE September exams). Hereby, the petition is dismissed”, the bench said. “You (lawyers) have demanded opening of courts. But you want exams to be postponed. Postponment of exams is a loss for country,” the Supreme Court bench said on Monday.

NEET & JEE Main exam dates:

NEET will be held on scheduled date 13 September, 2020 (Sunday) whereas, JEE Main exam will be held from 1- 6 Septembe 2020. National Testing Agency (NTA) will administer both the competitive examinations.
