Railway clarifies on surrendering 50 percent posts, says services won’t affect

Indian Railways clarifies on earlier notice, issued to surrender 50 percent posts in department. Amid confusions over decision, Railways stressing over automation, says number of services won’t be affected. Director General of Railway Board Anand S Khati on Friday said that neither the number of employees will reduce nor the ongoing recruitments will be halted. He further says that Railways will work on sharpening the skills of employees as per Technologies. Department is also working to improve the rail services keeping the focus on Railway Automation.

The clarification comes hours after Indian Railways issued a letter stating surrendering 50% of its posts. Railways announced to cut short the fifty percent of its staff and to put a hold on upcoming recruitments. According to Indian Railways’ notice department is working on to surrender 50% Non-Safety (RPF/ RPSF) posts. The decision is taken to improve the Railway infrastructure & new projects. The letter has been sent to all zonal Boards.

Focus on multi-skilling- Railway Board Director General on Friday said that departments are directed to work on multi-skilling of employees. To make employees multi-serviceable Railways will initiate work on improving employees’ skills.

Board Director General interacting with press, said that Indian Railways has decided to surrender non-safety category posts. About 50 percent posts will be surrendered & letter in this regard has been written. Khati also said that the 65% of Indian Railways’ revenue goes in salaries and pensions.

No effect on ongoing NTPC/ Group D recruitments- Currently there are 12.5 Lakh employees working in Indian Railways & nearly 2.90 lakh posts are still vacant in Railways. Railways has issued advertisements on nearly 1.4 lakh posts including of NTPC & Group D. Last year Railways released the vacancies of NTPC, Group D, Non-Ministerial & other posts on nearly 1.47 lakh posts. As clarification given by Railway Board Director General, there will be no effect on ongoing 2018, 2019 & 2020 vacancies.

No of Vacancies may be cut short- However, it is still unclear whether RRB Boards cut NTPC & Group D vacancies or not. According to sources there are chances that reviewing the number of vacancies, RRB Board may decided to cut the number of posts in ongoing recruitments including of CEN 1/2019 NTPC & RRC CEN 1/2019 Group D.
