In the Hindu lunisolar calendar, Karwa Chauth falls on the fourth day of Kartik month. Married Hindu women observe a Nirjala Vrat on this day, refraining from eating or drinking anything after sunrise for the duration of the day. They observe this custom in hopes that their husband will have a prosperous, secure, and long life.

Karva Devi, whose husband was attacked by a crocodile, and Savitri, who prayed to Lord Yama, the god of death, for the soul of their husband, are credited with creating Karwa Chauth. According to a different narrative, Draupadi became concerned when Arjun travelled to the Nilgiris to meditate and enlisted the assistance of Lord Krishna to make sure he was safe.
Like Goddess Parvati did for her husband, Lord Shiva, Krishna counselled her to fast in support of Arjun. Drik Panchang claims that Veeravati, who devotedly loved her husband, is also connected to the history of Karwa Chauth.

During Karwa Chauth, Hindu women offer prayers to Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Karwa Mata in hopes of extending the lives of their husbands. They rise early, take a bath, eat Sargi before the sun rises, and then keep a 24-hour fast known as nirjala vrat.
Women break their fast and offer offerings to the moon once the moon rises, allowing them to see the moon and their husbands through a sieve. Women wore traditional attire in red or yellow at the Karwa Chauth Puja, as well as the traditional jewellery and ornaments worn by married women (such as sindoor, bangles, bindis, etc.). Mehendi is also applied to the hands because it is seen to be auspicious.

It occurs on October 13 this year, and the puja muhurat will run from 05:54 to 07:08 p.m. The Chaturthi Tithi will be observed from 00:59 on October 13 to 03:08 on October 14, according to Drik Panchang.
