Indian Navy to commission third Scorpene class submarine INS Karanj in Mumbai on March 10th

As per recent reports by defense sources, the Indian Navy is scheduled to induct its third Scorpene-class submarine INS Karanj in Mumbai on March 10th. This submarine will add more firepower to the Indian Navy's offensive capabilities in the Indian Ocean region. 

Indian Navy has already inducted two submarines of the class named INS Kalvari and INS Khanderi. Last month, the Indian Navy received its third French-made P75I Scorpène class submarine INS Karanj which will be operationalized in the next 10 days

The P75I Scorpene-class submarines are armed with six torpedo launching tubes, 18 heavy weapons, tube-launched MBDA SM-39 Exocet anti-ship missiles, and precision-guided weapons.

The weapons are carried in weapon launching tubes and can be easily reloaded at sea. The submarine can launch crippling attacks on the surface and underwater enemy targets.

The Project 75I-class submarine is a follow-on of the Project 75 Kalvari -class submarine for the Indian Navy. Under this project, the Indian Navy intends to acquire six diesel-electric submarines, which will also feature advanced air-independent propulsion systems to enable them to stay submerged for a longer duration and substantially increase their operational range.
