Indian Army Day 2022: History & Significance 

The Indian Army was founded in 1895, although it did not have an Indian commander until the country gained independence from British occupation in 1947. General KM Cariappa became the Army's first Indian commander on January 15, 1949. General Francis Butcher, the final British leader of the national army, handed over the reins to him. At every Army Command Headquarters, the historic day is commemorated with patriotic fervor.
