India-China border row: Indian Army & PLA soldiers start disengagement at Pangong Tso, LAC

According to recent reports, the disengagement process between PLA and the Indian Army personnel has begun at Pangong Tso, near the Ladakh border. The disengagement process is being carried out by both armies to defuse tensions along the 3488 Km long India-China border.

India-China begins disengagement of troops at LAC

As per recent reports, PLA  and Indian Army soldiers deployed on the southern and northern shores of Pangong Lake have begun disengagement as planned on Wednesday according to the consensus reached during the ninth round of military commander-level talks. 

This news has come after the Indian and Chinese armies held the 9th round of Corps Commander-level talks on 24th Jan 2021 with an aim to move forward on the disengagement of troops from all friction points in eastern Ladakh.

The 2020 China–India skirmishes began on 5 May 2020, Since then, both Chinese and Indian troops have been engaged in aggressive melee, face-offs, and skirmishes at locations along the Sino-Indian border, including near the disputed Pangong Lake in Ladakh and the Tibet Autonomous Region, and near the border between Sikkim and the Tibet Autonomous Region. Additional clashes also took place at locations in eastern Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

According to defense sources, the situation at LAC deteriorated to its worst on 15 June when melee fighting between PLA and Indian soldiers took place in Galwan Valley near LAC. This resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers (including an officer) and casualties of 43 Chinese soldiers (including the death of an officer).
