We worship Maa Skandmata on the fifth day. Kartikeya is also known as Skanda, while Mata is the word for mother. In other words, she is Lord Kartikeya's mother. She is renowned for bestowing intelligence upon even the most uneducated individual as long as he worships her. She is also believed to grant her followers authority, salvation, prosperity, and treasures.
She is seen atop a lion, holding a lotus in her hands, and holding the infant Karthikeya in her lap. She is the fire deity. Two of her four hands are holding lotuses, one is holding "Skand," and the last one is in the Abhaya Mudra.
