When "Bullet Train" debuts in 4,300 North American theatres on Friday, the studio will put Brad Pitt's broad appeal to the test. The thrilling assassin thriller is anticipated to open to at least USD 30 million, which will be enough to top domestic charts. In the fragmented moviegoing world of today, that wouldn't be a bad beginning. But for a high-profile thriller targeted toward adult men, such forecasts are lower than what independent box office analysts were anticipating.

The expensive R-rated "Bullet Train" will need to remain in theatres all summer long to make up for its high cost. Without accounting for the numerous millions spent on public promotion, Sony spent USD 90 million on the movie's production.

Bullet Train is about a trained murderer Ladybug. who wishes to end his life, but his handler Maria Beetle persuades him to stay in order to retrieve a suitcase from a bullet train traveling swiftly from Tokyo to Kyoto. He and the other assassins on the train learn that their goals are all related while traveling. Who will exit the train alive, and what will be waiting for them at the terminal station, is the next question.
