Jammu and Kashmir: Al-Badre chief Ganie Khwaja killed in Sopore encounter

Al-Badre chief Ganie Khwaja was gunned down by security forces in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.

According to recent reports, Al-Badr chief Ganie Khwaja was neutralized while two terrorists managed to escape during an encounter in Sopore yesterday, said Vijay Kumar Kashmir Inspector-General of Police (IGP) on Wednesday.

According to DGP Sopore Police got the information that Ganie Khwaja and two of his assistants are hiding in Sopore. A cordon was laid. The Army and CRPF then joined the operation and Ganie Khwaja was killed.

“Sopore police killed Al-Badre Chief Ganie Khwaja in an encounter just now. A big success,” IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said on Tuesday evening.

"We have received information that two terrorists managed to escape while cordon was being laid," he further said.
The IGP said Ganie Khwaja went for training to Pakistan in 2000 and returned to India in 2002.  

According to reports, Khawaja regularly met with new militant groups in north Kashmir and he also helped them to reach South Kashmir districts. After he was shot down, One Ak-47 rifle, 5 magazines & other incriminating material were recovered from Khawaja's possession.
