Young Indian Shooter Manu Bhaker faces harassment at IGI Airport, asked to pay bribe by the security staff

On Friday, the world number 2 and top Asian shooter Manu Bhaker was verbally harassed by Air India security staff at the IGI Airport in Delhi. When she was travelling from New Delhi to Bhopal for her training, she was stopped and harassed by the Air India security staff in-charge Manoj Gupta for carrying sporting pistols in her luggage. According to the shooter, she was asked to pay a bribe for carrying a sporting Pistol in her luggage, even after she had permission from the DGCA. 

In a series of tweets, the young Indian shooter elaborated how the security staff at IGI Airport misbehaved with her and her mother. She was asked to pay Rs 12,000 as a bribe for carrying two-sporting pistols and ammunition, even after the permission given by the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

According to the young shooter, she was travelling from New Delhi to Bhopal with her mother. At the IGI airport she was asked to pay money for carrying the sporting kit including pistols and required ammunition for the training. Even after showing the DGCA permit and all documents she was stopped and verbally harassed by the security in-charge, Manoj Gupta. When she clicked photos, her phone was snatched. The shooter alleging the security staff said that they treated her like a criminal.

"Not allowing me to board flight AI 437 at IGI Delhi and asking now 10200 Rs, Despite all valid Documentation and DGCA permit. Top of that Manoj Gupta Air India in charge and other staff is humiliating me despite I have 2 guns and ammunition", Manu Bhaker tweeted on Friday.

Appealing to the Union Minister of Civil Aviation Dr. Hardeep Singh Puri and Union Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju she urged officials to allow her to travel after she has been given permission by the DGCA.

Further, she writes to Air India to take action against the security in-charge, Manoj Gupta, for allegedly harassing her and her mother at the airport.
