It has been reported that amid ongoing tensions with China. India successfully conducted its first test of supersonic Akash-NG missile from a test facility off Odisha coast. Developed by state-funded DRDO, the New Generation weapon is capable of destroying highly manoeuvring targets like UAVs, aircraft & missiles.
This marks a major development in India's capability to develop a surface-to-air weapon that can be very useful against numerically superior Chinese PLAAF.

The missile system can target aircraft up to 30 km away, at altitudes up to 18,000 m. It has the capability to neutralize aerial targets like fighter jets, cruise missiles, and air-to-surface missiles as well as ballistic missiles. It is in operational service with the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force.
