Ahead of the 73rd Republic Day on January 26, Gallantry awards and medals have been announced by the President of India Shri Ramnath Kovind. As many as 73 personnel have been awarded President's Fire Service Medal, 205 police medals for gallantry, 89 President's Police Medal for distinguished service, and 650 police medals for meritorious service have been announced.
Alongside the gallantry awards, 32 children have also been awarded Rashtriya Bal Purashkar by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. President’s Fire Service Medal: On Republic Day, 73 personnel have been awarded Fire Service Medals; Out of these President’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service awarded to 13 personnel & Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service awarded to 50 personnel. In addition, 54 personnel are also awarded Home Guard & Civil Defence Medals, Home Ministry adds.
Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2021: As many as 32 children have been awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, 2021. The award is given to the children with exceptional abilities and outstanding accomplishments, in the fields of innovation, scholastics, sports, arts & culture, social service, and bravery. Kunwar Divyansh Singh, Kameshwar Jagannath Waghmare, and Jyoti Kumari are among the 32 children awarded with the Rashtriya Bal Purashkar.
Awarding the Bal Puraskars to the 32 children for their exceptional abilities and outstanding accomplishments Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Dear children, this award is an example of how big and effective results can come from small ideas when associated with a right action".
Police Medals: Police medals on eve of Republic Day 2021, 2 personnel, one each from Jharkhand and CRPF receives President's Police Medal for Gallantry posthumously, 205 police medals for gallantry, 89 President's Police Medal for distinguished Service, 650 police medals for meritorious service.
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) ASI Mohan Lal who lost his life during the Pulwama attack in 2019, awarded the President Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) posthumously. According to the sources, none of the 21 ITBP personnel who were recommended gallantry medals by their force for facing the Chinese during face-offs and skirmishes in May-June last year (other than Galway) awarded medals this Republic Day.
