Railways served 1.63 crore meals & over 2.10 crores water bottles to migrants: Centre files affidavit in SC

Amid debate on migrant labours across the nation during this crucial phase of CoronaVirus outbreak, Centre has filed a detailed affidavit in Supreme Court. According to this affidavit filed by the Centre, Railways has served over 1.63 crore meals & over 2.10 crores packed drinking water bottles to migrants. 

"The Central govt, state governments, all frontline workers and the entire nation have responded to and dealt with this unprecedented #COVID19 pandemic on war footing taking care of every aspect of life", reads the affidavit. 

All data presented in this is till 1st June 2020. It is also mentioned that state governments and railways provided free food and water to migrant workers. Also, Centre with the support of NHAI facilitated the shifting of migrant workers, who were found walking on roads by providing them requisite transport to the nearest railway stations. 

"Whenever necessary, the migrants are provided with food, drinking water, medicines, clothes, slippers, and other essentials free of cost, depending upon the requirements," Centre stated in the affidavit. 

In this detailed affidavit Centre also claimed that the Supreme Court was fully satisfied the way Centre has acted and discharged its obligations in the best interest of citizens most scientifically and based on collective decisions taken by Executive at Centre and state level in consultation and advice of experts in each field. 

The opposition has been continuously pressurising Centre to look into the matter of migrant labours who have been traveling to their homes amid this COVID19 lockdown. Many Bollywood actors also came forward to help these migrants. Among all, Sonu Sood has gained nationwide praise for his support to migrants. He has been proactively helping people in need during this lockdown. People have started approaching Sood for help and he has been giving positive responses to all. People are appreciating Sood for showcasing kindness.
