New UK variant of SARS-CoV2 found in samples of six returnees from United Kingdom in India, confirmed Health Ministry. Between November 25 & December 23, about 33,000 passengers disembarked at various Indian airports from UK. All the disembarked passengers are being tracked and traced for RT-PCR tests.

On Tuesday, samples of six UK returnees found positive for new UK coronavirus strain, confirmed Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

It is also said that between November 25 & December 23, about 33,000 passengers reached at various Indian airports from United Kingdom. So far only 114 have been found positive for COVID-19 and all the disembarked passengers are being tracked & subjected by states/UTs to RT-PCR tests.

According to the Health Ministry, samples of three UK returnees have been tested & found positive for new UK strain in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, two in Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad & one in National Institute of Virology, Pune. All 6 people have been kept in single room isolation.

"All these passengers are being tracked & subjected by states/UTs to RT-PCR tests", Ministry add in its statement.
