Union Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Nishank Pokhriyal on Friday attended a webinar on "National Education Policy for Holistic Development: Issues, Challenges and the Way Forward" organised by UGC HRDC, JNU in association with Research for Resurgence Foundation today.
Dr. K. Kasturirangan, chairman of the drafting committee for NEP 2020 was also present in the event. Education Minister attended the webinar viritually and spoke about the vast range of topics empanelled in the New Education Policy 2020.
During the event, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal spoke about the global impact of New Education Policy 2020 & mentioned that the Policy incorporates Indian, International, Impactful, Interactive & Inclusive elements together. Until we make the common man a global citizen, we cannot progress in the 21st-century world & that is what NEP aims to do, the Minister said.
Minister also spoke about the vision of Swami Vivekananda & his influence on drafting NEP. The founder of our country, Swami Vivekananda always used to say that if I get 100 energetic youth, then I will change the picture of India, he said. "Today we have the vision to make India a global superpower & the mission is to prepare world citizens through NEP", the Minister added.
Dr K. Kasturirangan thanked Dr Ramesh Nishank Pokhriyal for his guidance on NEP 2020 & congratulated him for being honoured by Cambridge Partnership for Education, a part of Cambridge University, for spearheading education reforms in India & for being awarded the Vatayan Lifetime Achievement Award.
He also told that ground-level consultations were done while drafting NEP 2020. He added that the policy recommends transformative changes & will ensure holistic learning by removing the distinction between curricular, extracurricular, & co-curricular subjects.
