In a recent development, the Supreme Court of India has passed an order to transport migrant workers to their home. As per the recent orders by the S, all migrant workers should be transported back to their home towns within 15 days.

"Centre and states have to prepare a list for the identification of migrant workers in a streamlined manner. Employment relief to be mapped out and skill-mapping to be carried out to migrant laborers", the SC stated in its official order.

The Bench of Justices: Ashok Bhushan, Sanjay Kishan, and MR Shah have passed the orders. The following are the highlights-

Within 24 hours Shramik Trains need to be provided as demanded. A help desk to avail the employment opportunities for migrant workers needs to be established by states. Establishment of Counselling centers to help transported migrant workers to again find a way back to travel and earn a livelihood. The SC has also ordered that if there are any cases against the migrant workers for violating the lockdown under  NDMA then they must be considered to be withdrawn by states.

The SC has also specifically mentioned that all cases registered against migrants who have allegedly violated lockdown orders to be considered for withdrawal under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. Transportation of the migrant workers from across the country to their respective homes has been one of the most debatable topics in recent times. Centre and state governments have been trying on their behalf and also celebrities as Sonu Sood came forward to help migrants amid CoronaVirus lockdown.
