Indians Navy receives 3rd P75I Scorpène class submarine 'Karanj', three more to be inducted soon

As per recent reports, the Indian Navy on 15th Feb received its third French-made P75I Scorpène class submarine 'Karanj'. The submarine is expected to enter service with the Indian navy soon.

It has been recently reported that the Indian Navy on Monday received its 3rd P75I Scorpène class submarine 'Karanj'. Indian navy is expected to induct the Karanj submarine into its active service soon. The submarine has been purchased under "Project 75I-class submarine".

The P75I Scorpene-class submarines are armed with six torpedo launching tubes, 18 heavy weapons, tube-launched MBDA SM-39 Exocet anti-ship missiles, and precision-guided weapons. The weapons are carried in weapon launching tubes and can be easily reloaded at sea. The submarine can launch crippling attacks on the surface and underwater enemy targets.

The Project 75I-class submarine is a follow-on of the Project 75 Kalvari -class submarine for the Indian Navy. Under this project, the Indian Navy intends to acquire six diesel-electric submarines, which will also feature advanced air-independent propulsion systems to enable them to stay submerged for a longer duration and substantially increase their operational range.
