Independence Day 2020: Who will attend 73rd I-Day event, MHA releases guidelines

In the wake of COVID19, the government has strictly directed to circumvent large gathering and parishioners of people in huge number even for the 73rd Independence Day celebrations on 15 August. With Independence Day next month the event organised could be web cast in order to reach out people at enormous. The Centre has asked all states to avoid large gathering of people and asked to ensure social distancing and wear masks while celebrating the day amid pandemic. Gatherings of all sorts should be avoided when all religious. Festivals are being celebrated with simplicity & without crowds. Flag hoisting should be done virtually this year & what was done on 22nd of March (clapping) should be done on 15th August. Home Ministry said COVID 19 warriors like doctors, health and sanitation workers should be invited in the ceremony for their noble contribution against novel corona virus. However there will be no change in the 73rd Independence Day's opulence, magnificence and gaiety in the celebrations says MHA.

"Therefore, all programmes should be organized in a way that large congregation of people is avoided and technology is used in a best possible manner for celebration befitting the occasion," the advisory said.

In a four page detailed guidelines on how Independence Day should be celebrated says Some persons cured of COVID-19 may also be invited,” “It would be appropriate that the theme of “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat” is suitably spread and publicized amongst the masses through various activities/messages in the functions and in social media during independence day celebrations,” it added. “In view of the spread of Covid-19 pandemic, while organizing various programmes or activities for the Independence Day celebrations, it is imperative to follow certain preventive measures such as maintaining social distancing, wearing of masks, proper sanitization, avoiding large congregations, protecting vulnerable persons, etc.; and follow all guidelines related to Covid-19 issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health a Family Welfare,” the guidelines said.

Who are invited on I-Day event?

It is also said that Independence Day celebrations is scaled-down and about 250 invitees to attend PM’s address at Red Fort. On the occasion of 73rd Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort will be limited to Prime Minister’s speech, Guard of honour, unfurling of National flag, National anthem & release of tricolour balloons.

The event will be organised at Red Fort like every year consisting of presentation of a guard of honour by armed forces and Delhi police to the Prime Minster NarendraModi. Unfolding of National Flag accompanied by playing of National Anthem, firing of 21 gun salute.Also singing of the national anthem immediately after the PM`s speech, and release of tricoloured balloons at the end."At Home" reception in the national capital will be held in the Rashtrapati Bhawan.It may be ensured that the national flag is hoisted at all state capitals or districts or block or Panchayat levels, the order says.As per the order, performance of police or military bands will be recorded at places of historic importance associated with the Independence movement and recorded versions will be displayed through large screens or digital media during public functions and on social media.
