IAF Mi17 On Board CDS Bipin Rawat Crashes in Tamil Nadu; Passenger Status & Live Updates Here

A Mi17 Helicopter of the Indian Air Force crashes on Wednesday, December 08 in Coimbatore Tamil Nadu. According to the media reports, a total of 14 persons including CDS Bipin Rawat his wife Madhulika Rawat, and 7 other military personnel boarded the copter. It is reported that the crash took place near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu. 

Based on the latest visuals provided by the media sources, the visuals of the Mi17 Helicopter crash show that there could be fatalities. However, the status of the passengers is yet to be ascertained and not available at the time of the news report.

While confirming the accident, the Indian Air Force tweeted, "An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident".

According to the News18 media sources, a total of 14 passengers were on board including- CDS Bipin Rawat, Madhulika Rawat, Brig LS Lidder, Lt. Colonal Harjinder Singh, Nayak Gursevak Singh, NK Jitendra Singh, L/NK Vivek Kumar, L.NK B Sai Teja, Hav Satpal & five others.

Wed 4:54 PM: 13 of the 14 personnel involved in the military chopper crash in Tamil Nadu have been confirmed dead, claim media sources.

Wednesday 4:08 PM: The government is likely to issue a statement tomorrow in Parliament on the crash of the military chopper with Chief of Defence Staff on board, says ANI Sources.

Wed 3:58 PM: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reaches CDS Gen Bipin Rawat’s house in Delhi.

Wed 3:44 PM: Saddened to hear that the IAF chopper carrying CDS General Bipin Rawat crashed. I am trying to gather more information on the incident. As per preliminary information, he has been taken to hospital for treatment, says Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Dec 08, 2:40 PM: 14 people were on board the military helicopter that crashed between Coimbatore and Sulur in Tamil Nadu. They included CDS Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, Brig LS Lidder, Lt Col Harjinder Singh, NK Gursewak Singh, NK Jitendra Kr, L/ Naik Vivek Kumar, L/Naik B Sai Teja, and Hav Satpal.

December 08, 2:20 PM: Based on some unconfirmed sources, CDS Rawat has been rescued and transferred to a nearby Hospital. He has reported some burnt injuries, the source added.
