Guru Purnima 2022

Guru Purnima, a Hindu, Jains, and Buddhist holiday observed in India, Nepal, and Bhutan, honours all intellectual and spiritual gurus or instructors. Traditionally, Buddhists celebrate Guru Purnima to commemorate Gautam Buddha's first sermon to his first five students in Uttar Pradesh's Sarnath, but Hindus and Jains also observe this event to honor their masters.

The prefix 'Gu' in Guru relates to darkness, and the term 'Ru' alludes to the removal of darkness; hence, a guru is someone who eliminates all darkness from our life. In India, this festival is marked by paying homage to spiritual gurus, however, in Nepal, the festival is observed as Teacher's Day.

When Guru Purnima Is Celebrated?

Guru Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day of Ashadha, the Hindu month that falls between June and July.
