According to recent reports, President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping is expected to visit India to attend the 13th anniversary of the BRICS summit between Brazil, Russia, India, China & South Africa. President Xi Jinping visited India in 2019 for an annual summit after the 2017 Dokklam crisis.
Interestingly, this time too, the Chinese premier will be visiting India amid another Indo-China border standoff. However, this summit will focus mainly on the economic affairs of the member countries rather than any military or geopolitical topics.
BRICS is the acronym coined to associate five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The BRICS members are known for their significant influence on regional affairs. Since 2009, the BRICS nations have met annually at formal summits. Russia hosted the most recent 12th BRICS summit on 17 November 2020 virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
