According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the Super Cyclone Amphon will hit Digha (West Bengal) and Hatia Islands (Bangladesh) near Sunderbans by noon or evening on Wednesday. Are you ready for it? Here is Dos and Dont's before and during Super Cyclone. During this time the wind speed can reach from 155-165 kilometers per hour to 185 kilometers per hour. The department has predicted heavy destruction. According to the department, during this period, raw houses, old pucca houses, electric and telephone poles, and coconut trees can also be severely damaged. Apart from this, rail and road routes are also likely to be affected in many places.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a new alert on the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha on Tuesday, warning that Cyclone Amphan is likely to advance into West Bengal as an extremely severe cyclonic storm tomorrow. The meteorological department also requested that all fishing activities be suspended in West Bengal and Odisha until May 20, in the wake of Super Cyclone Amphan. The cyclone is expected to make landfall on Wednesday (May 20).

The cyclone, which is expected to make landfall in Bengal on Wednesday, has become a 'super cyclone,' the meteorological office said this afternoon. It had intensified in an extremely severe cyclonic storm overnight. Because of this, AMPHAN Cyclone Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a high-level meeting at 4 pm on Monday to review cyclone preparedness, Union Interior Minister Amit Shah tweeted.

Before Cyclone

  • Ignore rumors, stay calm, Don't panic
  • Keep your, mobile phones charged to ensure connectivity, use SMS
  • Listen to the radio, watch TV, read newspapers for weather updates
  • Keep your documents and valuables in waterproof containers
  • prepare an emergency kit with essential items for safety and survival
  • Secure your house; carry out repairs don't leave sharp objects loose
  • Until cattle/ animals to ensure their safety

During & After Cyclone

  • Switch off electrical mains, gas supply
  • Keep doors and windows shut
  • if your house is unsafe, leave early before the onset of a cyclone
  • listen to radio/ transistor
  • Drink boiled/ chlorinated water
  • Rely only on official warning if outdoors
  • Do not enter damaged buildings 
  • Watch out for broken electric poles and wires, and other sharp objects 
  • Seek a safe shelter as soon as possible
