After three consecutive defeats, South Africa will eye their first win of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 when they face West Indies at the Hampshire Bowl, on Monday. After a below par show so far, the Proteas desperately need a win to stay in contention for a spot in the semi-finals. On the other hand, West Indies look slightly better after a win and a loss from their two games. The Jason Holder-led Carribean side kicked-off their campaign on a convincing win over Pakistan before losing a narrow 15 runs to Australia.
South Africa has plenty to discuss their inconsistent performances with the bat and their openers - Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla will have to surely fire against the Windies. However, their middle order looks decent and the lower order has also chipped in with runs. The Proteas now need to play fearless and attacking cricket. Meanwhile, the Windies will look to rise up from their narrow defeat to Australia, a game which was under their control.
Rain may come around at the beginning of the match, but nothing severe to affect the game in a big way.
Southampton Pitch report:-
The wicket at Southampton is slightly spongy bounce and grassy. Both the teams have a good pace attack so they took advantage of this bouncy pitch. Caribbeans are most likely to use up with these conditions as their bowlers like Sheldon Cotrell and Oshane Thomas doing a fantastic job thus far in this tournament. While Proteas most depends on their pacers like Morris and Rabada.
This is the first time South Africa have lost three successive games in a single edition of the World Cup. They last lost four consecutive ODIs in August 2008. On the other side, West Indies have the best Powerplay bowling stats in this World Cup with an average of (13.29) and a strike rate of (17.1).
Head to head:- South Africa 4-2 in the World Cups.
