BCCI on Thursday postponed the IPL 2020 event indefinitely and till further notice. Board President Saurav Ganguly has intimated to all eight IPL franchises on postpone of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 event. Amid extension jn lockdown in India Board taking major decision on April 16, announced to postpone IPL 2020 indefinitely, which means no specific date or month could be finalized in regard. As per PTI report Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday postponed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 indefinitely.
BCCI officials on Wednesday announced to postpone the major sporting event Indian Premier League 2020 indefinitely. Earlier the IPL 2020 was scheduled to start from March 29, later postponed till April 15, but with the nationwide lockdown and further extension by Prime Minister Modi to fight the coronavirus pandemic in India on Wednesday resulted to postpone of event indefinitely.
Due to Covid19 pandemic the nationwide lockdown has been extended till May 3 as several cities have been reported hotspots of Coronavirus. Taking a step forward, the Indian Cricket board postponed the IPL league in which players from several foreign countries also participate. Annually organizing Premier League is now postponed until further notice.
However the BCCI Board reserves the right and may or may not take a call on IPL schedule, this all will be depending on the global situation, BCCI officials hinted. The decision on postponing IPL league 2020 indefinitely comes a day after to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on extending the nationwide lockdown till May 3. In MHA's guidelines also all supporting events have been called off till May 3 across the country.
Due to the evolving global health concerns regarding Covid-19 and lockdown measures implemented by the Government of India to contain the spread of the pandemic, the IPL Governing Council of the BCCI has decided that the IPL 2020 Season will be suspended until further notice, the BCCI said in a release
On Wednesday IPL league joined other supporting events which have been called off due to Coronavirus. Among other sporting events have been called off due to Covid19 pandemic including India VS SA series, French Open and Wimbledon.

Proceedings related to IPL 2020- BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had earlier ruled out the chances of holding the tournament later in the year. BCCI has intimated us that IPL has been postponed for the time being but they are hopeful of finding a window later this year as and when things normalise, a veteran franchise official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
