According to recent reports, one of Marvel's most anticipated female-centric comic book movies, Black Widow, will now be released simultaneously on the OTT platform as well as in theatres to avoid further spread of COVID-19.

Fans that are not willing to risk their health and still want to enjoy their favorite Marvel movie will have two options- either they can watch Black Widow in theatres (3D. IMAX, 4D) or they can enjoy the movie in the comfort of their home by streaming Black Widow on Disney+ Hotstar streaming service.

Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow release date has been shifted to 9th July 2021. Earlier Black Widow was scheduled to release in 2020, however, due to the COVID-19 surge in the USA, the Black Widow release date was postponed several times.

For theatres, which are beginning to reopen after punishing months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic, the announcement was a blow to hopes of an imminent recovery. While bigger and bigger films have turned to stream and premium-on-demand in recent months, Marvel movies are Hollywood’s most bankable box-office behemoths.

Black Widow is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is intended to be the 24th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Black Widow was directed by Cate Shortland and written by Eric Pearson from a story by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson, and stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow alongside Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, William Hurt, Ray Winstone, and Rachel Weisz. Set after Captain America: Civil War (2016), the film sees Romanoff on the run and forced to confront her past.

Black Widow release date has been finalized as 9th July 2021.
