University Grant Commission (UGC) has approved the proposal for two degree courses simultaneously. After implementation of this UGC decision students will be able to pursue and pass two degree courses simultaneously. On Thursday UGC approved the proposal for 2 degree courses marking one degree as Regular and other one from Distance Education or Online Education, said officials. Adding further in the same row, UGC said the detailed guidelines and knowledge would be released shortly on the UGC website.
After the decision taken in view of current situation of lockdown and urgent demand of Online Education, UGC changing its stance and stressing on Online Education, approved the two degree proposal. This will help the University level Students who want to pursue two degree courses simultaneously, said an official. Students will soon be able to take two degree courses simultaneously. The University Grants Commission (UGC-UGC) has approved the proposal to this effect.
Based on press release UGC has approved Two Degree courses proposal in its recent meet. Allowing the students to pursue two courses of degree level UGC is going to lay down soon the detailed knowledge in this regard. Increase in global demand of Online Education amid health crises, has brought University Grant Commission to take a stance on Two Degree proposal.
UGC Panel said that among two degree courses one of these two degree courses will have to be completed in Regular mode and the other one either by Online / Distance mode. The expert familiar with the proposal said that official notification in this regard will be issued soon.
UGC last year set up a committee under the leadership of Vice President Bhushan Patwardhan to look into the same matter over Two Degree courses from different universities through remote, online medium. The proposal to do two degrees simultaneously then later shifted and heard recently amid lockdown. However, UGC had earlier constituted a committee in 2012 to consider the subject. The committee had widely discussed the subject but the proposal (to do two degrees simultaneously) could not be pursued.

Officials said that though the two degrees have to be completed by students in different modes, one can be done through regular mode and the other can be done through distance learning mode (distance learning medium or ODL). UGC Secretary Rajneesh Jain said, the proposal was approved at a recent Commission meeting which paved the way for students in India to complete dual degrees simultaneously.
Member of the Committee informed that students will have the option to do two degrees simultaneously in the same stream or in a different stream at the same time. Further it is added that detailed guidelines will be published soon at UGC website.
